  5. This document provides important information about installing and using
  6. the associated release of Kermit for Windows.  Please read all entries in
  7. this file or risk losing data and/or improper operation.

  10. Distribution File Inventory

  13. Kermit for Windows is distributed in two separate formats.  As a
  14. 16 bit application for Standard Windows and as a 32 bit application for
  15. Windows NT.  The author supplies both versions as a zip file.

  32. Documentation

  35. The primary documentation for this program is contained in the file
  36. KERMIT.WRI.  This is a Windows Write formatted file.  To view or
  37. print the documentation, start Windows Write from inside of Windows
  38. and open the Kermit documentation file.  You may then scroll through
  39. the documentation or print it by choosing Print from the File Menu.

  42. Session Save Files
  43. ******************

  45. The format of the data (session) files for this release are compatible
  46. with all versions since (and including) version 0.76.  If you are 
  47. upgrading from a release earlier than 0.76, you must manually recreate 
  48. each of your session save files for this release (I considered writing 
  49. a conversion program, but decided this release had been held up long enough).

  55. Please refer to the program documentation in KERMIT.WRI for detailed
  56. installation instructions.

  58. Pay attention to the instructions concerning the CTL3D DLL files.  You
  59. will receive error messages if these files are not properly installed.

  61. Also note that to take advantage of the new TCP/IP (Telnet) support
  62. you must acquire and install a WinSock library separately.  Windows NT
  63. comes with one and Microsoft is now providing one for Windows for
  64. Workgroups for free.

  66. Yes, I know I should really create an installation program!

  68. Note that you must use pkunzip version 2.04 or greater to correctly
  69. expand the kermit archive.

  75. Support has been added for TCP/IP (Telnet), Color Text Attributes, 
  76. and a Scrollback Buffer.  Please see the program documentation in
  77. KERMIT.WRI for more information.
